The Josep Carreras Leucemia Research Institute, a reference in biomedical research, has appointed Dr. Ari Melnick as its new scientific director, replacing Manel Esteller, which was between the years 2019 and 2024. Melnick provides a great experience in hematology research to the Josep Carreras Institute, endors Weill Corner Cancer in New York, where he led the malignant hemopathy project. Currently, it is part of the Board of Directors of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the Scientific Committee of the Lymphoma Research Foundation in New York. Internationally recognized for his work in the field of malignant hematological diseases and the epigenetics of cancer, he was a pioneer in the development of inhibitors of rational design transcription factors, an innovation that meant an improvement in the elimination of pathogens and possibility of correction in metabolic imbalances. Lee also Josep Corbella is the author of more than 360 studies and has developed various therapeutic approaches approved by the American FDA, the United States government agency responsible for testing the safety, effectiveness and protection of medicines, biological products and medical devices for Americans. In recognition of these achievements, Malick was awarded the Ernest Beutler Prize, which rewards transnational research for the American Hematology Society. Malick considers that it has a “unique” opportunity to boost transnational research that will reinforce top -level research centers in Barcelona, in addition to increasing international projection thanks to strategic collaborations with leading centers in Europe, America and Asia. As an oncologist, Dr. Malick has dedicated his entire professional career to end the reproduction of tumors in patients. Under its leadership, the Josep Carreras Institute begins a new stage, maintaining its firm commitment to the search for excellence, internationalization and attraction of new scientific talent.
