However, Hamas also knows that as long as the hostage is in its possession, Israel is in its hands, hence it wants to get all its demands fulfilled. This includes ending the war in exchange for the release of hostages, Israel’s complete withdrawal from Gaza and the release of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, after the attack on October 7, clearly said that the war will continue until Hamas is completely destroyed. Although Israel made proposals to Hamas five times for the release of hostages, every proposal was rejected. After Trump’s threat, talks are resuming. Trump had said in his threatening message that if the hostages are not released by January 20, 2025, there will be devastation in the entire Middle East and strict action will be taken against those who are committing atrocities against humanity.
