Republican Party candidate Donald Trump has been elected the 47th President of the United States. Donald Trump is the second personality in American political history who, after being ousted from political power, succeeded in winning the elections once again and becoming President again. Trump’s election victory has many political and global implications. This will have implications for America’s domestic politics and internal economy, foreign policy and diplomacy, and global politics. It is also important for political relations between India and America. Trump showed the dream of “American Dream” in the election and his political message and acceptance was seen among the American people. Which he benefited from in tough and challenging competition. It is important to keep some important points in mind here. How Donald Trump’s popularity increased. Donald Trump has received 301 electoral votes. This is also important because in the last presidential election 2020, he had received only 232 electoral votes. One reason for this big electoral surge and victory is Trump’s victory in those states which are generally considered to be the strongholds of the Democratic Party. Compared to 2020, this time Trump received 16 electoral votes in Georgia, 20 in Pennsylvania and 10 in Wisconsin. Apart from this, he also won in Arizona, Michigan and Nevada. Trump had lost in all these states in the last election. Especially in Nevada, he could not win even in the 2016 elections. Talking about some other figures, in the 2016 elections, Hillary Clinton was two percent ahead of Trump in popular votes but lagged behind him in electoral votes. In the 2020 presidential election, Trump’s popular votes declined by only half a percent, but his number of electoral votes fell to 232. It is important to mention the figures so that it can be understood how the Republican Party under the leadership of Donald Trump has received the highest number of popular votes since 1988. This time he received about 51% popular votes. Whereas the vote share of 47% received by Kamala Harris is the lowest of the Democratic Party since 1992. A special thing about the American presidential election is that despite the high number of popular votes, if you lag behind in the electoral votes, you lose the election. If we look at the results, Donald Trump was victorious in both popular vote and electoral vote, which is proof of his personal popularity. Its clear message is that Trump went ahead in terms of personal popularity and there was a big difference between him and Kamala Harris in both the polls. If we look at another figure, Trump’s vote percentage has increased in 19 out of 20 states where the Democratic Party had won in 2020. Apart from this, Trump has increased his victory margin in the Republican Party’s stronghold. Obviously, his personal popularity was at its peak in this election and it gave him political benefits. This time the support of non-white voters is also unprecedented in Trump’s victory among black voters and youth. In the 2020 elections, Joe Biden was successful in conducting a socially inclusive experiment against Trump, but this time the election did not show the same. According to AP VoteCast Survey data, there was an enthusiasm for Trump among non-white voters, especially among the early voters. While there was an equal split between the two parties among white people, 41% of non-white people voted in favor of Trump this time compared to 35% last time. People from the Hispanic group also appeared in favor of Trump. Black voters were also seen standing in favor of the Republican Party at 15% compared to 8% in 2020. Apart from this, a special thing that was seen was the feeling of enthusiasm and hope towards Trump among the young voters. Among people of working age above 30 years, this time 47% voted in favor of Republican candidate Donald Trump compared to 36% last time. All these figures are proof of the growing political graph of the Republican Party and Donald Trump and his social acceptance in this electoral politics. How is the result from India’s point of view? The success in the Democratic states in this electoral victory makes Trump’s political acceptance more credible. If we talk about issues, 39% voters considered the economy as a major election issue. Economic issues dominated Donald Trump’s election campaign, which benefited him. His vision of the American Dream was linked to America’s economic resurgence and the employment, prosperity, and social structure of the American people, which impacted the common people. At the same time, the major issues of the Democratic Party such as women’s rights and abortion, health care and racial discrimination failed to influence the common people. On Donald Trump’s big victory, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also called him to congratulate him and promised to work together. Has expressed commitment. Trump’s victory is important for India in many ways. From an economic point of view, there can be a rise in manufacturing and defense sectors between the two countries. His focus is on strengthening American manufacturing and military capabilities. In such a situation, it may be better for Indian defense companies like Bharat Dynamics and HAL. During Trump’s previous tenure, relations between India and America had strengthened on the diplomatic and diplomatic front. In such a situation, the same can be expected this time also. This will be very important especially considering the relations with Canada. Although Trump has been mentioning tariffs before. In such a situation, this time his stand on this issue will be interesting to watch.
