The Russian military began planned exercises in the Baltic Sea, Interfax told the press service of the Baltic Flood of the Russian Navy. More than 20 ships, about 25 aircraft and helicopters, and about three thousand military personnel take part in the exercises. In addition to the forces of the Baltic Fleet, the Northern Fleet, as well as aviation of the Aerospace Forces, the Moscow and Leningrad military districts, were involved. As stated in the Baltic Fleet, the purpose of the exercises is to “maintain a favorable operational regime” and “developing the actions of the Fleet for Defense of Basing Points” in the Baltic Sea.
