India: Mamta’s ‘knock’ from house to house, UNICEF’s Child Help Scheme

It has been morning in Jainpur village of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. Amidst all this, ASHA worker Mamta Devi is also getting ready for her daily routine. A bell of the sudden phone disturbs the peace of Mamta’s house. Under this, immediate retaliation was taken to deal with very serious encephalitis syndrome and Japanese encephalitis. Dr. Ashutosh Kumar Dubey, Chief Medical Officer of Gorakhpur, says that Dastak means knocking every house! There was significant improvement in clean water, cleanliness and mosquito control, which reduced the AES and JE cases in Gorakhpur. Mamta in her village emerged as the face of Dastak Abhiyan. Now every house welcomes Mamta warmly. Along with UNICEF, about 16 government departments, including health, hygiene and education, work, which UNICEF provides technical guidance and resources. The effectiveness of the campaign was a major tool of the campaign- identifying the symptoms of the disease and treating quick treatment. Mamta still remembers a case. In his village, a boy had a sharp fever during the monsoon season. Her parents, after a little hesitant, called Mamta. Mamta asked the parents to call 108 immediately and went to the health center with them. The boy received proper treatment at the Child Intensive Medical Unit (Picu). Pediatrician Dr. Gyan Prakash Gupta says, “Before the Dastak Abhiyan, children often died of such a disease. Now parents immediately come to the hospital with their children and due to PICU and trained ASHA workers, we are successful in saving the lives of children. ” As part of the Dastak Abhiyan, Mamta organizes health camps, in which children are vaccinated against JE. In the camp, mothers come to pick up health related to health. Mamta says, “Vaccines protect children from diseases that once caused havoc in our community.” Neelu, a mother of the village, said, “Asha Didi explained to us how the vaccines work. Now I am not afraid to get my children vaccinated, but believe that my child will be safe by getting vaccinated. ”After the start of the Dastak Abhiyan, positive health results came out in Uttar Pradesh. Now every year 35 lakh 91 thousand families are going ahead and getting vaccinated to avoid AES and JE.
