Prior to this, he has also worked as a legal advisor and director of the law department in the Ministry of External Affairs. He has also been the Chairman and Member of the International Law Commission. This commission is an United Nations specialist institution, which promotes the development and codification of international law. What is the International Court of Court (ICJ)? ICJ, informally called the ‘World Court’, resolves legal disputes between UN member countries and also gives consultation (opinion) on legal questions asked by the United Nations institutions. It was established in June 1945 and is headquartered in the Peace Palace located in the Hague city of Nederlands. It is one of the six major organs of the United Nations. There are a total of 15 judges in the International Court of International Court, who are appointed for nine years. Elections are held for five seats every three years and any person can become a judge for two consecutive terms. Judges are selected on the basis of their merit, not on the basis of their nationality, but the rule is that two judges of the same country cannot be in this court simultaneously.
