The number of confirmed victims of the earthquake in Myanmar is now 144 people, the military junta ruling in the country said, Reuters reports. Another 732 people were injured.

The leader of the junta, General Min Aun Khline, said that the number of those killed as a result of an earthquake could grow. He urged all countries to help Myanmar. “The number of dead is also quite high. This is all that we can say at the moment, because rescue work is ongoing. The exact number of victims is still unknown, but we are talking about hundreds, ”an anonymous representative of rescue services told BBC. An earthquake of magnitude 7.7 occurred in Myanmar on the afternoon of March 28. The epicenter was near the second largest city in the country – Mandalaya, where more than a million people live. The earthquake was also felt in Thailand, Vietnam and China. The Thai authorities reported the death of nine people in Bangkok as a result of the collapse of the skyscraper under construction.
