A new scam has just emerged in the department of Maine-et-Loire, says Ouest-France. It is the Departmental Directorate of Population Protection (DDPP) which alerts a canvassing and the sending of letters emanating from furniture stores. According to the DDPP, crooks “invite you to come and take a gift or participate in a lottery in their premises”. The state service, which requires the greatest “vigilance”, confirms that the elderly are the first aims. How do they operate? Via methods described as fallacious. Indeed, to deceive their victims, the crooks do not hesitate to artificially inflate the prices of exposed products, to allow their sellers to put forward false promotions in order to make believe in “a good deal” or to give gifts which do not correspond at all to what has been announced since they are of “low value”. They also do not respect the withdrawal period of 14 days “from the signing of the sales contract”. The management would like to recall that “even if the article was delivered the same day with resumption of the old furniture, the law authorizes the withdrawal within 14 days”. So many “misleading commercial practices” on the quality and origin of the items put up for sale, qualified as “particularly aggressive”.
