After Donald Trump’s spectacular victory in the US Presidential elections, many countries of the world, from China to Canada, are worried due to his possible harsh policies. Donald Trump has adopted the policy of America First. That means he keeps American interests paramount in everything. In his previous tenure, he had adopted a very aggressive stance towards China. He even called him the biggest threat to America. On the other hand, he also takes a very aggressive stance towards the current government of Canada. He has even called Canadian PM Justin Trudeau the illegitimate child of Fidel Castro. He does not even spare Pakistan. In such a situation, many countries in the world are apprehensive about his policies. On the other side is India. He is not at all perturbed by Donald Trump’s victory. PM Modi worked with three Presidents each. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has given a statement. When Jaishankar was asked at an event in Mumbai on Sunday that many countries were apprehensive about Donald Trump’s victory, he said that India is completely confident about its relations with America. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has worked with three American Presidents in the last 11 years. When Modi went to America for the first time as PM, Barack Obama’s government was there at that time. In 2016, Donald Trump became the President there. PM Modi has also worked closely with him. Then in 2020 Joe Biden became President. PM Modi’s relationship with Biden was also very good. In such a situation, even though all the countries of the world are troubled by Donald Trump’s victory, India, especially PM Modi, is completely confident. Jaishankar further said that after achieving a spectacular victory, Donald Trump first called three prominent leaders of the world. There is also a PM Modi. This shows how comfortable is the relationship between PM Modi and Donald Trump. As far as the relations between India and America are concerned, there seems to be a broad consensus among the major parties in both the countries irrespective of the party lines. The policies of both Democrats and Republicans in America are almost the same with respect to India. Similar is the situation in India. Here the policies of the ruling NDA and the opposition Congress are almost the same. There was no major ups and downs in relations during the tenure of both the parties in both the countries. Relations between India and America have now become people to people centric. The presence of a large number of people of Indian origin in America affects these policies.
