The official said that Kim had tried to commit suicide in the bathroom of Dongbu Detention Center in Seoul shortly before midnight. His condition is currently out of danger. According to the report, when this incident happened, a police team was raiding the office of President Yoon Suk Yeol. A Special Investigative Unit is investigating the President’s role in imposing martial law (emergency) in the country. Earlier on December 9, President Yoon was banned from leaving the country. The main opposition Democratic Party has called Yun’s implementation of martial law as unconstitutional, illegal rebellion or a coup. A police complaint has been filed against nine people, including President Yoon and the former Defense Minister, regarding this. Before voting on the impeachment motion on Saturday, President Yoon Suk-yeol had apologized to the country for imposing martial law. He bowed his head on live TV and in front of the public, he called the imposition of martial law wrong. However, he did not announce his resignation. Why did the President need to impose martial law? There are a total of 300 seats in the Parliament of South Korea. In the elections held earlier this year, the public had given a huge mandate to the opposition party DPK. The ruling People Power got only 108 seats, while the opposition party DPK got 170 seats. Due to being in the majority, the opposition DPK was interfering more in the functioning of the presidential government, and they were not able to work according to their agenda. President Yole won the elections in 2022 by a small margin. After this his popularity started declining. His image was also affected due to his wife being involved in many controversies. At present the popularity of the President is around 17%, which is the lowest among all the Presidents of the country. To deal with all this, the President imposed martial law. President Yoon Suk-yeol had apologized to the country on Saturday for imposing martial law. Impeachment motion can be brought against the President again to remove President Yoon Suk-yeol. The impeachment motion brought failed. It needed 200 votes to pass, but the opposition had only 192 MPs. Apart from this, three MPs from the ruling party voted in its favor. After this, the proposal was rejected without counting the votes. Before voting on impeachment, 107 out of 108 MPs of the ruling party had walked out of the House.
