The wife of Russian Maxim Marchenko, who was serving the term in the United States, turned to the President of the Russian Federation with a request to include her husband in the exchange list. In September 2023, Fiji, at the request of the American authorities, was detained by 51-year-old Russian entrepreneur Maxim Marchenko and his wife Diana. After a five -day imprisonment, the woman was released, and her husband was extradited to the United States. The American side accused the Russian of the supply of microelectronics from the United States to the Russian Federation bypassing sanctions, as well as in smuggling and laundering of money. In the spring of 2024, Marchenko pleaded his guilt. In the summer, the Federal Court of the Southern District of New York sentenced the man to three years in prison and another three-under supervision. In an exclusive interview with RT, Diana Marchenko told why she considers the attitude of the American authorities to her husband biased. – Diana, we spoke the last time Maxim was arrested. A year and a half has passed since then. Your husband pleaded guilty. Why? – the prosecution was eight articles, among them smuggling, money laundering, supply of dual -use goods. My husband went on a deal with the investigation, because he hoped that he would be released so sooner and he could return to his family. Unfortunately, the calculation turned out to be incorrect. He was sentenced to three years in prison and three years under supervision after liberation. “Do you think that there is a prejudice attitude towards him from the American authorities?” – of course, there is a biased attitude. In America, there is such a procedure when a lawyer declares himself a defender of a certain person accused. The investigation provides him with the case file, Discovery Materials. Our lawyers did not provide anything, not a single page. There was only a protocol of interrogation at Fiji and no more evidence of his guilt.-What difficulties Maxim had to face in prison?-Unfortunately, my husband, unfortunately, has a diabetes and a strong swelling of the leg. We need constant medical care, which is provided in prison, but because of a constant change of prison-and he was not always the case, this is not always available. Moving painlessly. He does not have the necessary shoes. In my opinion, he also submitted documents to journalism, but something did not work there. He always tried to do something as much as possible. My husband cannot sit still and do nothing. I always tried to help other prisoners. They study their affairs, laws together. The department of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Washington said that Maxim should have been released in October this year. But, as far as I know now, deportation from the United States takes a lot of time, from six to nine months: the rules have changed. A person cannot even buy a ticket to himself and fly away in the due date. He should wait for the ticket from the US authorities, and this can take for a long time. – How do children endure separation from his father? – My husband always preferred to spend all his free time with children, with me. We traveled a lot. He was a very caring father. Now we are constantly waiting for a call. Our life, unfortunately, has narrowed to the simple expectation of Maxim’s return. My children are already teenagers, but they cannot live the usual life of their peers. The eldest son is very waiting for the return of the pope, he always looks according to the application, which planes are flying where. And if those aircraft fly, on which, presumably, people are being taken to exchange, he always reports where they flew. Each time we hoped that Maxim would also leave the plane.
