America President Election Result 2024: As soon as Donald Trump won the US presidential election, Iran’s currency Rial reached its all-time low on Wednesday. During trading, the price of Riyal against the dollar became 7,03,000.
At the time of Iran’s nuclear deal with world powers in 2015, the value of one Riyal was 32,000 against one US dollar. Trump had unilaterally withdrawn from this agreement in 2018. This created tension between the two countries, which continues even today. On July 30, the day Iran’s reformist President Massoud Pejeshkian was sworn in and began his term, the currency was at 584,000 per dollar. The decline comes at a time when Iran’s economy has been struggling for years due to international sanctions over its rapidly expanding nuclear program. Pezeshkian, elected after the death of hardline President Ibrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash in May, came to power on a promise to reach a deal to ease Western sanctions. However, the Iranian government has been trying for several weeks to show what effect whoever wins the elections in America will have on Tehran. That stance continued Wednesday with brief remarks from Pezeshkian administration spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani. He said, “The election of the US President has nothing to do with us. The main policies of America and Iran are fixed and there will be no major change in them if people replace others. We have already made necessary preparations.” Even 45 years after the occupation of the American Embassy in 1979 and the subsequent hostage crisis that lasted for 444 days, tension between the two countries still persists. Iran is embroiled in wars in the Middle East, badly affecting its allies – armed groups and fighters from its self-proclaimed “axis of resistance”, which includes the Palestinian Hamas movement, Lebanon’s Hezbollah party and Yemen’s Houthi militia. Israel is continuing its war by targeting Hamas in the Gaza Strip and invading Lebanon amid devastating attacks against Hezbollah. Additionally, Iran is still assessing the damage caused by Israeli attacks on the country on October 26 in response to two Iranian ballistic missile attacks. Iran has threatened to retaliate against Israel – where US troops are now stationed at missile defense batteries.
