The Russian ambassador Sergei Netschajew also took part in the celebrations in Torgau. This had caused criticism. This is “a clear mockery of the victims” 80 years ago and the victim in today’s Ukraine. According to the Mayor of Torgau, Henrik Simon (independent), the Russian ambassador Netschajew was not officially invited to commemorate, but was informed about it. He had not been granted a right to speak so that he was not a platform .Netschajew had already participated in a commemorative event for the Battle of Seelow’s heights in Brandenburg last week. The Federal Foreign Office had previously advised to allow official Russian and Belarusian representatives to become commemorative events in order to prevent possible Russian propaganda for the Ukraine War.
