Russia and Ukraine regularly exchange the bodies of the dead military. The last such exchange took place on February 14, 2025.
Then the Ukrainian side was handed over to the bodies of 757 dead APU soldiers, who participated in the hostilities in the Kurakhov, Pokrovsky, Bakhmut, Ugro, Lugansk and Zaporizhzhya directions. The bodies of 45 dead troops were returned to Russia. The return of the bodies of the Russian military is possible thanks to the joint work of the Ukrainian departments, the International Committee of the Red Cross and volunteer organizations. One of them is a bridgehead volunteer group, which has been looking for the bodies of the Ukrainian military who died during the war in the Donbass since 2014. After the start of a full -scale invasion of the Russian Federation to Ukraine, the organization continued to work near the combat zone and in the occupied territories. The volunteers of the “bridgehead” are also looking for the bodies of Russian troops, collect documents and other evidence that allowed to identify the dead. Then they are handed over to the Russian side in exchange for the bodies of Ukrainian soldiers. Medusa publishes photos of one of such search operations in the Donetsk region. From the beginning of a full -scale Russian invasion, we publish pictures every day showing what the war looks like. As many of you could notice, more often we have photos shot in Ukraine and from the Ukrainian side of the front. This has a reason: independent journalists continue to work in Ukraine (although there they are faced with pressure from the authorities), but there are almost no left in Russia. Nevertheless, we try to collect all available evidence. (Tagstotranslate) News
